Special Olympics World Games

Overview

The Special Olympics World Games (SOWG) are an international sporting competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities, organized every four years.

At the Special Olympics World Games 2019, in Abu Dhabi, badminton was one of 25 featured sports. A total of 7,500 athletes from 190 nations participated in the games, marking a new high in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics.

At the Special Olympics World Games 2023, in Berlin, 191 badminton athletes from 69 countries competed at the badminton events.

The next Special Olympics World Games will be in 2027.
