Excerpt: This study describes a novel aerobic test specifically designed for badminton players to perform at their usual training venue. The test is based on a mode of training frequently used by players whereby their normal movement pattern is executed around the court without use of a shuttlecock. Although in training, this work is quite random in nature, controlling the distance and speed of movement can allow this to be used as a basis for fitness testing. Data are presented here which have been obtained from national squad junior players performing the test at two phases of their training year.
