Excerpt: The main purpose of this research is to establish and validate the flight movement equation of a badminton, and found the relationship between the velocity of badminton and the air resistance. The research method is based on the motion laws of aerodynamics, which establish a motion equation of flight trajectory under the influence of the gravity and air resistance by applying the theory of aerodynamics. The results show that the motion equations of flight trajectory of a badminton can be determined through the structure of terminal velocity, and the measured data is quite good fitting with the p

The frequency of TAI is unknown and aetiology is controversial: The present descriptive cross-sectional study was done to determine the prevalence of TAI and associated factors contributing to it in football, cricket and badminton. From January to June 2012, male players (n = 131), age -17-35 years, were selected by purposive sampling technique from renowned sporting clubs at Dhaka, Bangladesh. TAI was diagnosed through structured questionnaire and interviewing th

Excerpt:
Feather shuttlecocks are chiral bodies whose rotation properties, such as trajectory and velocity, affect their motion states. This study proposes an experimental method to simulate the rotation properties of shuttlecocks. The effect of wind velocity on the angular velocity of refitting shuttlecocks is tested in a wind tunnel. The refitting parts lie on the cork of the shuttlecocks to avoid affecting the shape of the feather and the friction between air and the feather. Two types of moments are assumed to act on the shuttlecocks: driving and resistance. The driving moment is dependent on rela

Excerpt: Badminton is a sport that requires a lot of over-shoulder motion, with the shoulder in abduction/external rotation. This questionnaire study on 188 international top-level badminton players during the World Mixed Team Championships showed that previous or present shoulder pain on the dominant side was reported by 52% of the players. Previous shoulder pain was reported by 37% of the players and on-going shoulder pain by 20% of the players. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of shoulder pain between men and women. The majority of the shoulder pain had started gradually. The

Excerpt: A 3-D model for a shoulder segment is developed using Kane’s method. Through the inverse dynamic approach, the unknown torque at the segment is found using kinematic data produced from an observation of a professional badminton player in a Thomas Cup’s Tournament. The subject is 1.80 m in height and weighs 80 kilograms. The result shows that the highest value of torque is produced during contact while performing the jumping smash activity.

Excerpt: We study experimentally the dynamics of shuttlecocks. We show that their trajectory is completely different from classical parabola: for a same launch, the flight of the shuttlecock quickly curves downwards and almost reaches a vertical asymptote. We solve the equation of motion with gravity and drag at high Reynolds number and find an analytical expression for the range. At high velocity, this reach does not depend on the velocity anymore. This phenomenon, that we call the “aerodynamic wall”, is highly observable in badminton. Then we study how the shuttlecock shape influences the badmint

The Microsoft Kinect™ sensor, for shuttlecock detection, and a Linux+Python environment, for data processing and filtering, was used. The trajectory estimation information, in the form of an equation of a straight line, was transmitted via Bluetooth™ to the robot, which extracted the given coordinates and with the help of mapping techniques, aligned itself to at a specific position in the arena to intercept the shuttlecock.
